Review by Anna Shin
We are in a war. Lately I've been thinking about this reality - the reality that, whether we acknowledge it or not, we are all parties to this war.
I realize that what amazes me each time I watch a film about war is the mental state of the soldiers: their incredible focus on the daunting task set before them. This focus is really a result of their unshakeable belief that their country is not only worth defending and fighting for, but also worth dying for; it is a cause that they deem worthy of their very own lives. I realize that this sense of greater call or conviction - one that can drive me to think outside of myself - is, I admit, foreign to me.
We unfortunately live in a day and age where everything around us is driving us in the extreme opposite direction of this sense of conviction and self-sacrifice. Our culture and all the messages imbedded within it screams to us everyday that we need to preserve, protect and pamper ourselves - a never-ending endeavour to look better, feel better and to be better. Sometimes when I find myself caught up in the frivolity of life, I remind myself that as a soldier for Christ, I really shouldn't be preoccupied with what colour the kitchen cabinets are. I strive to have a sense of overwhelming cause and conviction in my life, to be focused on the task set before me so that things that should be in the periphery remain there. I desire that my mission to win as many souls for Him in this war would overshadow all things superficial and fleeting. I pray that God would help me to store up treasures in heaven "where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break-in and steal": Matthew 6:19
In light of this battle, we need all the weapons possible in order to wage this war so that we can take with us as many precious souls as we can. This cause is more urgent than we realize. Not only must our mouths speak and proclaim that He is Lord but we must also use all the resources that are at our disposal to effectively deliver this message. In this modern high-tech age, the Internet is not only the most accessible technological invention, it is perhaps also the most widely used. This is precisely why the website http://www.needhim.org is an effective and efficient tool. The website's homepage lists provocative questions that many think about at some point in their lives, and provides comprehensive answers that are desperately needed: "Why am I here?", "How do I beat this loneliness", "What makes my life so hard?". The simple and well-constructed homepage invites people to explore further. Once one enters the website, information found there offers powerful and unapologetic truth truth about Christ and how only He can fill the deepest longings of the human, God-shaped heart. The format is "seeker-friendly", offering a variety of ways of discovering more deeply the truth of Christ: through listening to several audio messages, calling a phone number to have a live discussion with someone about God, or just simply reading about Christ and the redemptive power that He can have in our lives. Even more powerful, once the seeker has accepted Christ, the website also offers the opportunity to tell a friend about one's new life-changing discovery.
We need to be focused on the task set before us, that is, to preach the gospel and make disciples. Whether through the Internet or with our mouths, evangelism always requires boldness and courage. So why not utilize all the resources that we have in order to wage this war?
"'I tell you', he replied, "If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out'": Luke 19: 40

Hymns - Ancient and Modern
I imagine the original writers must have been bursting with inward fervour and passion for their God, able only to legitimately express it through song. It excites me to be connected to these Christ-lovers of the past, to the present where I am situated, and to the future generations of Christ-followers. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever... read more

Shattered Dreams
I have been praying daily ever since I became a Christian, and thankfully, I cannot say I've ever come to a place of despair where I felt that God had left me. However, I must admit that at times, I wonder why I bother to pray at all when God appears to allow bad things to happen anyway... read more

Recovering the Soul's Delight in Christ Through Fasting
When it comes to fasting, some modern day Christians might say, "Why do we need to fast? Isn't this an outdated practice reserved for ascetics? We live under grace. We don't need to prove our love for God by acts of deprivation." It's true - we do live under God's lavish, hope-giving, life-sustaining grace. To such critics I would point out that fasting is a clarifying and sanctifying experience, unique among the spiritual disciplines in its potential to help us understand what we treasure and what controls us... read more

Soul Survivor 2002: Glimpes of Glory
I bought in my first Soul Survivor CD 1996. I recall reading the CD cover, examining the worship leaders and song titles, thinking to myself, "I like David Ruis, but who are Matt Redman and Delirious?" Once I started listening to it, I felt like I was being drawn right into the event itself.
