Book: The Hidden Power of Healing Prayer - Mahesh Chavda
Reviewed By: Sang Choi
Healing prayer is for every believer! Too often we as Christians view healing prayer as a ministry for only those with a special gifting or anointing. Mahesh Chavda dispels this concept by covering two major topics: understanding the healing anointing and walking in the healing anointing. “The Hidden Power of Healing Prayer” is a book which connects what God’s Word says about healing with the stories and experiences of the author in an easy-to-read format.
Mahesh Chavda is an international evangelist who has travelled the globe and has ministered healing to many, seeing the miraculous signs and wonders of God’s healing power. He is able to share with the reader stories of actual healings through his own experience and the lessons he has learned in a way that is honest, humorous, and down to earth.
The first section of the book: Understanding the Healing Anointing builds a foundation based on the Scripture. It covers the principles of: the Lord our healer, the power of the gospel, the purpose of Pentecost, the authority to heal, and receiving and keeping the anointing of the Lord. This is essential in establishing an understanding of knowing who God is, His power, and how has He equipped us to do His works.
Once the reader understands this, Mahesh Chavda outlines how to walk in the healing anointing in the second part of the book. Allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us in His power, the principles in developing a healing ministry, and understanding some of the common barriers to healing from the enemy are topics which are practical and applicable for developing healing prayer.
What makes this book enjoyable is that it allows the reader to understand that God’s healing and the ability to minister healing is for every believer. It is not exclusive to the select few. The author weaves this understanding together with countless stories and experiences he has encountered, which makes for an interesting read. Some are personal stories of amazing healings within his own family. Others are the stories of those he ministered to, seeing God’s hand work to restore bodies that were ridden with disease. These experiences are fascinating to read and provokes one’s faith level. It also stirred up within me the desire to experience more of the signs and wonders of God for myself. My thought was: “Hey, if this is for every believer, then I want to experience this for myself too!”
The nice balance of this book is that there is the overall emphasis that the “heart of the gospel is not healing. The heart of the gospel is Jesus Christ”. This brings home the understanding that while signs and wonders are great, it is about knowing Jesus Christ. This is what brings power and restoration in people.
God’s healing is for today and it is for you and I. Mahesh Chavda gives a better understanding of this to the believer. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in discovering more of God and more of walking in His anointing. The author finishes the book with a challenge to the reader: will we take the next step and allow God to use us in a new and exciting way? I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to take the plunge - see you in the water!
