"Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer
Book Review (Mary Lee)
Do you feel stuck, like you can’t move forward in your life? Do you feel like you are not progressing in your spiritual growth, or in other areas of your life? The source of your problems is probably right inside your mind, within your own thoughts.
Our minds are amazing. They store extensive amounts of facts, details, logic, calculations, and other information. Our intellects process this knowledge at alarming rates of speed. Yet, the Bible states that our minds need to be renewed (Romans 12:2), and that we need to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10: 5).
Proverbs 23:7a (NASB) says, “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” In other words, our behaviours and attitudes are a result of what we are thinking within ourselves. Thoughts show through actions. This is one of many examples in scripture highlighting the importance of the activity in our mind. The author, Joyce Meyer, does a masterful job delineating many ways our minds can absorb thoughts and ideas which are not in agreement with God’s perspective about us, or are contrary to the scriptures.
Some of the applicable conditions, stemming from an undisciplined mind, we live with on a daily basis are: generalized unhappiness, complaining, negativity, depression, confusion, doubt, anxiousness, suspiciousness, judgmentalness, criticalness, addictions, impatience, blaming, self-condemnation, and even passivity. Each of these conditions is addressed individually with key solutions.
On a minute-by-minute basis, we are bombarded by the world around us through our eyes and ears. We often take on thoughts and attitudes of others without even realizing it. Much of the time we have no idea why we think or believe the things we do.
“Battlefield of the Mind” addresses causes and remedies for many of our troublesome conditions. In this book, we are shown the “battlefield” and the rules of this war. Replete with scripture and examples, we are given weapons with which to fight this battle. Meyer has written the book in three sections: The Importance of The Mind; Conditions of The Mind; and Wilderness Mentalities. Each section leads the reader into a position of power against the enemy of our souls (Satan), and more awareness of ways he uses our thoughts to work against us in ideas we view as perfectly normal.
If you find yourself “stuck” and not moving forward, frustrated and making no progress, maybe it is time to visit the battleground of your mind. However, don’t go there unprepared and unarmed. The tools in this book will help guarantee your success and victory.

Hymns - Ancient and Modern
I imagine the original writers must have been bursting with inward fervour and passion for their God, able only to legitimately express it through song. It excites me to be connected to these Christ-lovers of the past, to the present where I am situated, and to the future generations of Christ-followers. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever... read more

Shattered Dreams
I have been praying daily ever since I became a Christian, and thankfully, I cannot say I've ever come to a place of despair where I felt that God had left me. Recovering the Soul's Delight in Christ Through Fasting
When it comes to fasting, some modern day Christians might say, "Why do we need to fast? Isn't this an outdated practice reserved for ascetics? We live under grace. We don't need to prove our love for God by acts of deprivation." It's true - we do live under God's lavish, hope-giving, life-sustaining grace. To such critics I would point out that fasting is a clarifying and sanctifying experience, unique among the spiritual disciplines in its potential to help us understand what we treasure and what controls us... read more

I bought in my first Soul Survivor CD 1996. I recall reading the CD cover, examining the worship leaders and song titles, thinking to myself, "I like David Ruis, but who are Matt Redman and Delirious?" Once I started listening to it, I felt like I was being drawn right into the event itself.
